ProjectDuring the Software Factory project of the Fontys Hogeschool Venlo, students develop a project or a part of a project in cooperation with a real client. In case of the "Wearable Computing"’ Software Factory the Mobile Research Center (MRC) of the University of Bremen, which researches wearable computing technologies, is this client. The MRC develops wearable computing technology that is applicable in many different scenarios like maintenance, production, health care and emergency rescue. The Wearable Computing SoFa obtained the order to develop a prototype, which supports a search and rescue (SAR) mission. In that case the SAR mission is limited to a fire-fighter mission. Therefore, the prototype gathers information, like temperature or pulse frequency from all fire-fighters on a mission and displays an overview to the officer in charge. Furthermore, the officer in charge can send data, like audio messages or position data, back to the fire-fighters. As not all of today’s officers-in-charge have technical equipment to manage a mission, they have to guess about the position and constitution of his firefighters. This is why wearable computing technology would highly increases safety and efficiency in a dangerous work environment. ![]() |
